Crane Hook Inspection and Testing

The crane hook plays the role of connecting cargo and is subjected to great force during use. Coupled with the friction of the wire rope, it may break and cause an accident if it is not properly inspected. Therefore, the requirements for such products during use are very high, and no carelessness can be taken from installation to inspection.

Importance of Crane Hook Inspection

The inspection of crane hooks should be frequent and detailed. Many problems are not easy to see with the naked eye. They need to be inspected with tools such as magnifying glasses, which makes it easier to find cracks. If cracks appear, they must not be used after welding. After welding, the surface structure will be destroyed, resulting in a further decrease in strength, so they can only be scrapped.

Newly used hooks should be subjected to load tests, with 1.25 times the rated load as the test load (which can be carried out simultaneously with the crane dynamic and static load tests), and the test time should not be less than 10 minutes. When the load is removed, there should be no cracks, breaks or deformations on the hook, otherwise it should be scrapped.

After hanging and removing the test load, the opening of the hook should not exceed 0.25% without any significant defects or deformations. In order to prevent hooks and unexpected accidents, the hooks should be equipped with anti-hook safety devices. .

The hook is a load-bearing object, which is prone to cracks after long-term use, so it should be inspected at a certain period. Generally, magnetic powder, penetration and other methods are used for flaw detection. The flaw detection cycle can be determined according to the use environment and frequency of the hook, which is generally once every six months to one year.

Crane operators should check the overall appearance of the hook every day. The requirements for each component are as follows: the pulley should roll smoothly on the pulley shaft without obvious looseness; the pulley rim should not be damaged or cracked, otherwise it should be replaced; the anti-unhooking device should open and close freely, and its spring should be intact to prevent the wire rope from slipping off the structure; the structure should roll smoothly on the bearing at the beam; the round nuts and combination bolts should not be loose.

Specific detection method

Check the cracks on the structure surface: first clean the structure with kerosene, then use a 20x magnifying glass to check whether there are cracks on the structure, and always use the coloring method for flaw detection. For the hook of a super-large tonnage crane, non-destructive flaw detection methods (magnetic flaw detection, ultrasonic flaw detection) should also be used to check whether there are cracks inside and outside the hook. If there are cracks on the surface and inside of the dog hook, it should be scrapped and replaced immediately.

Inspection and maintenance are two very important parts of crane hook work. Carry out daily inspection and maintenance of crane hooks to check and deal with some hidden dangers in advance. This is not only responsible for the progress of the project, but also for the lives and property of the construction workers.

The crane hook structure is inspected at least once a year using dye testing, magnetic particle testing, ultrasonic testing or X-ray testing. Check the crane hook for deformation, local cold deformation and jaw extrusion, cracks, wear and rust. Lock the joint of the crane hook nut. Deformation: If the hook has increased by more than 10% compared to the original size, the crane hook must be replaced. The original dimensions are recorded on the crane hook and measured one by one. Corrosion: The threads and the operated shaft must be checked for corrosion and wear. To do this, the crane hook nut on the shaft must be loosened.
