Details Need to Pay Attention to When Using Crane Hooks

A crane is composed of many parts, and each part plays an irreplaceable role. Therefore, during the operation of the crane, crane accessories account for a large part. The crane hook is the most commonly used fetching device in lifting operations. It bears the entire load of lifting. Once routine inspections are not done and problems such as damage or unreliable fixation occur, it is easy to cause safety accidents. The hook set in the crane accessories needs to be inspected regularly, so not only must it be used very carefully and carefully, but daily maintenance work is also very important and indispensable.

What types of hooks are there?

Hooks are widely classified. Generally speaking, according to different manufacturing methods, they can be divided into forged hooks and laminated hooks; according to different shapes, they can be divided into single hooks and double hooks.

Chip hook

Chip hooks are divided into single hooks and double hooks. This kind of hook has a simple structure, reliable operation and easy maintenance. Single hooks are mostly used in casting cranes, while double hooks are mostly used in general-purpose cranes over 100 tons.

Forging hook

Forging hook is divided into two kinds of single hook and double hook, because the force of the single hook will be offset, it is not as advantageous as the symmetrical force of the double hook, so the small and medium-sized crane under 75 tons uses a single hook, and the crane with more than 75 tons of large tonnage uses a double hook.

How to perform daily maintenance on hooks?

The safety and stability of the hook plays an important role in safe production. The user unit should frequently conduct daily safety inspections and maintenance on the hook to ensure safe production. Generally speaking, routine inspection and maintenance of hooks include the following:

1. Use non-corrosive organic solvent to clean the crane hook group body, dry it and check with a magnifying glass. If cracks are found, replace them immediately and no repair welding is allowed.

2. Check the hook opening and the wear amount of the dangerous section.

3. Check whether the pulley groove and rim are evenly worn, whether the wire rope matches the wheel groove, and whether the pulley is loose or shaking.

4. Ensure that the rotating part of the hook can rotate freely and the gap cannot be too large. If it is difficult to rotate or stuck, you should check whether the bearings, bushings are damaged or there is insufficient lubrication.

5. Check the main hook for overload damage.

6. Check the hook guard plate, beam and other parts. If the guard plate is seriously worn, it can be repaired and re-bored after welding. If new parts are replaced, it is necessary to ensure that the mechanical properties of the material meet the requirements.

7. Check the anti-unhooking device.

How to conduct regular inspection of hooks?

1. Conduct non-destructive testing on the parts where stress is concentrated on the surface of the workpiece. If cracks are found, stop using it immediately and replace the hook with a new one.

2. Regularly check the wear or corrosion of the dangerous section of the hook. When the actual size is less than 95% of the original basic size, the hook should be replaced with a new one.

3. When the twist angle of the hook body exceeds 10°, the hook should be replaced with a new one.

4. When the opening deformation of the hook reaches 10% of the original basic size, the hook should be replaced with a new one.

5. Repair welding is not allowed for defects on the hook.

6. There shall be no plastic deformation in the dangerous section or the handle of the hook.

Therefore, when using the crane’s hook in daily life, we must pay attention to the maintenance of the crane and keep the surface clean to extend the service life of the hook. Of course, it is also necessary to choose accessories from good quality manufacturers.

Glory Rail has the professional rail R&D team. At the same time, we expanded the production line of crane equipment, in addition to the research and development of crane rails, we also opened a research and development department of accessories, including crane wheels, hooks, sheaves and drum. We are well aware of the importance of safe use of cranes, so our accessories adopt strict inspection standards and quality control procedures to ensure that they comply with relevant international and industry standards while ensuring safety and reliability.
